Candle Caution & Care
The Golden rule:
Never leave a burning candle unattended, ever!
Be Wise
- Keep out of reach of kids and pets
- Keep out of air currents
- Place on a heat-resistant, sturdy, level surface before lighting
- Check there are no flammable items nearby that could possibly come into contact with the flame
- Make sure your candle holder or plate is large enough to catch any dripped wax
- Keep lit candles at least 10cm away from each other. Burning candles can create air currents and melt neighbouring candles
Careful attention
- Never move or touch a candle until the wax has cooled and is solid again
- Never add anything to the wax and carefully remove anything that does fall into the melted wax with a pair of tweezers
- Keep the wick trimmed to around 1cm tall
Flame safety
- The safest way to extinguish a candle is with a snuffer or dipping tool
- Always extinguish a candle which starts smoking, flickering or the flame gets too high.
- Never extinguish a candle fire with water, it will splash wax around, instead smother the fire as you would a grease fire
